Farewell Louie . . .

Saying good-bye today to a very special dog and client. Louie came to class a senior dog with health issues that impacted his mobility and stamina, but that did not stop him from having a blast and rocking the Low Impact Agility course.  Sure, he couldn’t fit in the tunnel but we just let himContinue reading “Farewell Louie . . .”

Sometimes I just have to share how handsome this boy is. So handsome.
I always say there is no dating in Puppy Too but I could not deny these star-crossed friends any longer. For five weeks they would stare at each other and want to play with each other and even try to run to each other for recalls. I cannot say if it is true love or teenage infatuation but I could no longer stand in the way of their relationship. So today we let Marshmellow and Essie finally play.
Go Posie Go! Great work!
Got my garden planted and watered and thankfully remembered to water Wren. You do not want your German Shepherds wilting in the heat. #gsd #gsdlove #365wren #gardening #518dogs
I take pictures like this all the time and then I hide them on my phone - because the background is messy and there is a shoe on the floor (courtesy of Jasper no doubt) and the blanket has been knocked off the couch (also probably courtesy of Jasper) - but I shouldn’t hide them. Because this is real life and because ultimately what matters is three dogs from three incredibly different backgrounds who love each other. They play with each other, they comfort each other they seek each other out - and it is not just them. They are kind to Mags and Pirate the littles, and the cats. They make my heart happy, our functional family. So grateful for them and that they have each other. Being a dog trainer is a passion, but living with these dogs is a privilege. I will always be proudest of this.
If I am a little slower to answer over the next two months, this is why. My favorite part of working with Suzanne Clothier might be helping to raise some awesome puppies, and a new litter was just born. This will be the last litter for a few years and I plan to soak in all the puppy breath I can. It helps you handle the pee, poop, bitten toes and loud mouthed puppies that come along with the snuggles, smiles and laughter. No, I am not taking a puppy home. But I will love them all just the same.
What motivates your dog the most is not always a treat. Essie loves a nice cookie but she really loves interacting with people, play and chase! By putting a toy at the end of a retractable leash I can offer her all three. Essie gets to chase the toy and she gets to play and tug with me - that makes this little chipmunk chaser so happy! Is this the same strategy I would use for an 100 on GSD? Nope! But for Essie it is perfect. #dogtrainer #recalltraining #518dogs #puppy #whatagoodchoice
When I take Wren to the store I tell her she can pick one thing out . . . yesterday she picked out a snake. I had to disappoint her, now I know how my parents felt whenever I asked for a pet. #gsd #365wren #dogtrainer #fearfreegsd #518dogs
It is National German Shepherd Day in England. I am not in England but could not resist sharing a picture of me with my first dog, a German Shepherd named Bella. Bella was just a few months older then me and a huge part of my childhood, and love of dogs. I was tickled to learn Wren and she were distantly related. #gsd #nationalgermanshepherdday #dogtrainer #518dogs
